President Obama will address the nation tomorrow night on new steps he's taking to fix our broken immigration system: http://t.co/...
— The White House (@WhiteHouse) November 19, 2014
This long-awaited, politically-charged speech from the President of the United States about one of the nation's most pressing challenges will not be aired live by the major broadcast networks.
Apparently because the White House announced the speech on Facebook, but didn't ask the networks for airtime. So the networks are unfriending the President in real time for this impeachable breach of protocol.
"In 2006, Bush gave a 17 minute speech that was televised by all three networks that was about deploying 6000 national guard troops to the border. Obama is making a 10 minute speech that will have a vastly greater impact on the issue. And none of the networks are doing it. We can’t believe they were aggrieved that we announced this on Facebook,” a senior administration official told POLITICO.http://www.politico.com/...
Instead of broadcasting the 10-15 minute speech at 8 PM ET on Thursday, the major networks will be addressing more compelling dramas facing our weary nation.
ABC has the fall finale for Grey’s Anatomy on at that time, while CBS has ratings powerhouse The Big Bang Theory, NBC has reality show The Biggest Loser and Fox has Bones. As of right now, none plans changes to their regularly scheduled Thursday night November sweep schedules for the approximately 15-minute speech. There are two networks that plan to postpone their regularly scheduled programming to broadcast and analyze the important speech, namely Univision and Telemundo.
With an audience very interested in what Obama has to say, Univision has the 2014 Latin Grammys on tomorrow from 8-11 PM. The speech and possible analysis will be cutting into that broadcast. This is how the network said in a statement that they would handle the two events:https://tv.yahoo.com/...Univision Network will...proceed with our coverage plans for the Latin GRAMMY’s, immediately following the President’s remarks. Complete coverage of the announcement, reactions and what it means for the US will be covered across Univision’s news platforms, as well as on the Network’s “Despierta America” morning show.Fellow Spanish-language network Telemundo will also show the speech live, with reaction and analysis to follow at least until 9 PM.
